The conversation below started when I read an interesting article from Axios focusing on AI “Ph.D.-level super-agents.” I made a text copy of the article and uploaded it to ChatGPT intending to discuss with the LMM. . . I did that, sort of, but also got sidetracked pretty quickly. We never really got around to talking about the “super-agents,” what they are and what their capabilities will actually be, very much, and instead jumped right into looking at global trends as a result of their deployment, (their deployment, and the advent of Artificial General Intelligence in general). This makes sense because the article itself doesn’t really have all that much to say about the abilities of the agents and focuses more on their potential effects. . . in hindsight it is easy to see why both of us got “side-tracked” so easily. Maybe this wasn’t the right article to serve as a jumping off point for the kind of discussion I wanted to have anyway. . .
. . .that and, once again, which has been happening to me probably too much lately, I was thinking about the state of the wider world. I know I said I wouldn’t do this very much in this space, but I am going to put the conversation in here anyway, (despite how bleak it ends up getting), mostly because I always thinking it is interesting when ChatGPT gives what it sees are the possibilities of various outcomes of future trends regarding. . . well, sort of regarding itself… (See. . . there is some relevance to the Substack here, I swear!) And it does this very frankly, I think. Want a straight analysis? Ask a computer, at least until when or if it starts to be purposely biased on such topics. . . (Also, its predictive capabilities are in and of itself really interesting, considering I am coming to understand that at a base level prediction is what these LLMs are all about. . . much more on that later).
Anyway, unfortunately, this one deserves a ranking on the wholly subjective AI Existential Dread Meter!!!!
I put my feelings on this just into “I’m sorry Dave,” mostly because of the grinding misery ChatGPT predicts at the end of the discussion, but not any further as we can still change directions. . . as much as people seem to choose the unwise path for the most part collectively. . . we don’t always. . . right?
I think I am firmly onboard with your newest AI Existential Dread Meter score in light of that conversation!
Haha, thanks!
